Al Pacino Performs With Philly Orchestra in Center City

Legendary, Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino joined the Philadelphia Orchestra for a special performance in Center City Saturday night.

Pacino, 74, served as the special guest at the 158th Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball. Pacino joined Music Director  Yannick Nézet-Séguin and 18-year-old emerging violinist Simone Porter to perform Shakespeare and personal readings.

“It’s a singular honor for me to perform on the stage of the Academy of Music, in the very place where Rachmaninoff conducted The Philadelphia Orchestra and where this legendary ensemble gave the United States premiere of The Rite of Spring,” Pacino said. “I could not be more thrilled to become part of the legacy of the historic Academy of Music and The Philadelphia Orchestra.”

The event began around 5:30 p.m. with a Pre-Concert Reception at the Academy on South Broad Street. The concert then began in the Academy auditorium at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pacino and Porter.

The concert was followed by a promenade up Broad Street which ended with a reception at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Mayor Michael Nutter also attended the event.
